[image-1]Republican Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell is among more than 100 applicants from across the country who want to become the next College of Charleston president.

Today, a CofC search committee met to begin reviewing the applications.

“We’re certainly excited by the exceptional quality and size of our candidate pool,” says Greg Padgett, who chairs the College of Charleston Board of Trustees, and is on the search panel. “Our applicants are current university presidents, they’re deans, they’re leaders from the public and private sectors with applications coming from Charleston, from the Southeast, and throughout the United States.”

The search panel, made up of more than a dozen trustees, alumni, students, faculty and staff members, met this afternoon with a consultant from a national search firm to review the resumes of those who applied.

The committee will survey the field, conduct interviews, and narrow the list down to five names to send to the college’s Board of Trustees by Feb. 10.
