The Halsey Institute for Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston has a new home. As of Aug. 28, they’ll be setting up shop in the Marion & Wayland H. Cato, Jr. Center for the Arts, located at 161 Calhoun St. downtown. The new location gives the institute the opportunity for tremendous growth and improvement with three galleries and a library/resource center.

The "housewarming party" will begin with a grand opening reception and celebration on Oct. 23, which is gonna be one heck of a party. The inaugural exhibition will be Aldwyth: Work v./ Work n. Collage and Assemblage 1991-2009 by South Carolina’s own Aldwyth. CofC’s own Taylor Festival Choir and local dance group Buen Ache will perform. Not only is this a celebration of a new beginning for the institute, it’s also another event being hosted to celebrate the School of the Arts’ 20th anniversary. Just like house guests get the grand tour from the homeowner, the inaugural exhibition artist, Aldwyth, and Curator Mark Sloan will lead a walk-through of the exhibit, which will run until Jan 9, 2010.
