From a logistics standpoint, it shouldn’t have worked. How does one convince the well-heeled ladies of Charleston to drive out to a beer warehouse in the middle of the woods on a Friday at noon? The answer? Bubbles, models and the chance to reinvent their spring wardrobe.
King Street boutique Hampden Clothing celebrated their five-year anniversary at Westbrook Brewery with a fashion show from New York duo rag & bone. This CFDA (The Council of Fashion Designers of America)-winning line was selected to show in Charleston because Hampden has carried rag & bone since they opened their doors in 2007.
After trekking out to Long Point Road, we were greeted first by talented local photographer Cyle Suesz snapping photos in front of a step and repeat. The crowd’s fashions ranged from casual to cocktail gowns — even we were unsure of how to dress for a noon event. Tea sandwiches from Hamby’s Catering and libations from Hedges, La Bubbly, and Westbrook Brewery kept the crowds happy as everyone checked out each others attire for the day.
The attention to details at the event were stellar; growlers imprinted with the rag & bone logo and filled with hydrangeas gave the afternoon a sophisticated Southern feel. When the doors opened to the warehouse, we took our seats and waited for the show to begin.
We were happy to see some of our favorite models from Charleston Fashion Week decked out in the rag & bone Spring 2012 line. The 70s surfer vibe was a perfect match for this coastal town. When the show ended, it was a mad dash to the racks to find our favorite looks from the line. We almost witnessed a cat fight break out over a high-demand skirt, of which there was only one.
Hampden Clothing wins for the best excuse to take a long lunch on Fridays — let’s do it again next week!
