Charleston Mayor Joe Riley has been in contact with some residents and staff. The city has been monitoring Hanna since the weekend and the mayor told folks today not to get complacent, says spokeswoman Barbara Vaughn. Riley noted that the winds over the peninsula during the devastating Hurricane Hugo were thought to be Category 1. If people are concerned, Riley said they should go ahead and leave town if a voluntary evacuation is called.

The mayor will be meeting again with staff this evening to assess the situation, Vaughn said.

In other news, Mt. Pleasant Town Council will be meeting Wednesday, and the storm has delayed an Army Wives fundraiser and local high school football games.
