The South Carolina Maritime Heritage Foundation has canceled Charleston’s annual Harbor Fest event for this year, which had been slated for June 18-20.

With the tall ships out of town, including the Spirit of South Carolina, organizers decided to cancel the annual event and plan ahead for 2011. The annual tall ship challenge competition will be in the Great Lakes this year beginning June 30.

Last year’s event included 18 tall ships from across the globe. For many years, the festival spotlighted the construction of the popular Spirit of South Carolina.
