Scott and Kaye Penegar will host their Sixth Annual He Painted, She Painted reception at the Spencer Gallery on Friday from 5-8 p.m. on 55 Broad St.

The Penegars are well known in Charleston for their paintings and handmade bas-relief sculptures of palmetto trees, pineapples, and other local themes, including state colleges and universities and Lowcountry wildlife.

Scott Penegar paints abstract artwork with the use of vibrant color and feeling; Kaye Penegar is a realist, where she focuses on the use of light and immense detail.

The two come together in their reception to prove how two people can interpret and paint one subject with completely different views.

The majority of the couple’s artwork can be seen locally at the Historic Market, the Farmer’s Market, and also in catalogues nationwide. Refreshments will be served throughout the reception. Call (843) 722-6854 for further information. —Reina Gascon-Lopez
