[image-1] Six officers were shot and one was killed after a gunman confronted Florence sheriff’s deputies while they were trying to serve a search warrant Wednesday afternoon.

Florence Police Department Sgt. Terrence Carraway, a 30-year veteran of the force, was killed at the scene. Three other officers from the police department and three sheriff’s deputies were also hurt, according to The Post & Courier.

The shooter has been identified as 74-year-old Frederick Hopkins, according to the Associated Press.

Hopkins is a Vietnam War veteran and a disbarred attorney. He barricaded himself inside the home with children, according to authorities, and fired at the officers from inside the home where officers suspected that a 27-year-old man had sexually assaulted a foster child who lived there.

Hopkins was under arrest as of Thursday morning after injuring himself during the standoff.

Serve & Connect, a Columbia-based nonprofit founded after the shooting death of Forest Acres police officer Gregory Alia in September 2015, has established two GoFundMe pages in support of the wounded officers and their families.

You can donate to the Terrence Carraway Memorial Fund or to the Wounded Florence Officers Fund.

“As the widow of a fallen police officer, I know first-hand the impact this support has on a family’s recovery process and, as the CEO of Serve & Connect, I have witnessed the critical impact of this support on officers in recovery,” said Kassy Alia in a statement.

The campaigns are endorsed by the SC Law Enforcement Officers Association, the SC Police Chiefs Association, and the SC Law Enforcement Assistance Program.
