Ryan Adams may have performed a much-talked about show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville recently, but last night’s gig at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center had its own epic moments, too.
Take, for instance, when Adams and opener/indie goddess Jenny Lewis performed the must-hear track for any Carolina-based fan, “Oh My Sweet Carolina.”
Or the time he took to a microphone wrapped in Christmas lights on stage-left to do a solo acoustic performance of “My Baby Don’t Understand Me” — a song by Natalie Prass, who Adams toured with recently in the UK.
And, according to Adams, last night was the first time his current band has ever performed “To Be Young.” And don’t forget about the Oasis cover, “Wonderwall,” which he originally performed on Love is Hell Part I.
Plus, you know it’s a special show when Adams precedes “The End” with, “This is dedicated to my pops, who’s here tonight.” He also clarifies that the lyrics are no longer valid (the song says, “I don’t know the sound of my father’s voice/ I don’t even know how he says my name.”).
The 22 track-strong setlist ended with the high note of Heartbreaker’s “Come Pick Me Up,” and the lack of an encore unfazed one totally satisfied audience. After the show, Adams retweeted yours truly, and we’re still swooning.
