For one month every four years, all the world turns to one athletic stage. And no it’s not the Olympics. It’s the World Cup, obvi. Thirty-two countries from all over the planet take to the field, hoping to prove they’re top dog in the world of soccer. And here at the City Paper, we can’t wait to find out who’s going to take it all.

Will the team of youngsters lead the U.S. out of the Group of Death? Or, will injuries force top teams like Portugal and Germany to an early exit? Do Costa Rica and Australia have what it takes to make surprising appearances past the group stages? And, most importantly, will a fortune telling sloth takeover from Paul the Octopus (RIP) who correctly predicted 85 percent of the match results while living in an aquarium in Germany during the last Cup? Any way you look at it, we know we’ll be tuning in around town to catch as many of the games as possible.

Madra Rua won the honor of being named the best bar in all of South Carolina to watch the games by BuzzFeed. The Irish pub will be raffling off a 46-inch TV during the final game, and the more people who come to watch games, the bigger chance you have of winning. The bar’ll also have $4 Carlsberg drafts throughout the games, as well as logo glassware available and World Cup T-shirts. And don’t worry about hearing the games as each one will be played through overhead speakers.

Bay Street Biergarten will be serving up $4 pints and $7 liters of Abita, Kona IPA, and Longboard Lager, plus $4 cans of Dales Pale Ale and Yella Pils. Despite being a German beer garden, they’re putting an emphasis on the American team and will be going all out for their games (June 16, 22, and 26), but they’ll be showing all the games. On June 22, they’re teaming up with HoM, the Alley, and Palace Hotel for the chance to win a bike from Oskar Blues. Hit all four venues and get your BikeDown passport stamped and you will be entered to win a free custom bicycle from Oskar Blues Brewery. The crawl will have $4 Oskar Blues as well as drink specials at each location. And for the championship, Biergarten will host a 32-team beer pong tournament. It costs $20 to register and your two-person team picks their country upon registration.

The Alley will be hosting guest bartenders from the Battery on June 16 for the U.S. game — and they’ll be sticking around if you want to try and beat a pro-soccer player at foosball or a FIFA video game.

All three Mellow Mushrooms will be showing the games. On June 12 the official Sam Adams World Cup Kick Off Party will be held at the Mellow Mushroom on King Street. Guests will have the chance to fill out World Cup brackets to win a private Sam Adams patio party at Mellow Mushroom King Street for up to 20 people. The winner will be announced at the Championship Party at Mellow Mushroom Avondale on Sunday July 13. And on June 16, all three Mellow Mushrooms will be hosting the first USA game watching party. Throughout the World Cup guests can enjoy Mellow Mushroom’s “All-4-One” specials which include $4 Sam Adams, Fun-Guys (Pretzel Bites), and international beers.

HoM’s turning the Cup into a game. Draw a name of a player, and if that player scores, you get a free menu item. We just have to ask, does that count for own goals too?

The Local 616 will be lining the front of the bar with flags from around the world. They’ll also be serving up world buckets (mixed buckets of beer from their World Cup specific beer menu featuring beers from around the world) as well as Brazilian-style cocktails.

Over in Mt. P, My Father’s Moustache will be serving up $2 Bud Light pints and a $5 golden goal menu. And they’re throwing a kick off party on Thurs. June 12 at 4 p.m., plus kickoff parties for the England vs. Italy game on Sat. June 14 and the USA vs. Ghana game on Mon. June 16 at 4 p.m. The MVP (most valuable patron) who watches the most matches at My Father’s Moustache is eligible to win the royal treatment during the final, which entails a reclining chair, a personal server, and a $100 bar tab.

Manny’s will be offering different food and drink specials during certain countries’ games, like half-price burgers for U.S. games or buy one get one pizzas for Italy games.

Liberty Tap Room will be showing all games possible, and they’ll have a special happy hour menu during all the soccer games.

Enjoy $10 pitchers and Dougel beer promotions, $12 buckets, as well as specials on sangria and mini bottles of bubbly at Molly Darcy’s. All games will be shown on multiple televisions, but not played over loudspeaker since music will play Monday through Saturday.

Another Irish pub, Tommy Condon’s will be offering beer specials and will be broadcasting the games. Some will be over the loudspeakers but music again takes precedence.

Head to Mad River to check out all the games, and enjoy $3 PBR, Tecate tallboys, and $12 Bud Light towers.

The four Wild Wing locations around Charleston want you to feel like you’re in the stadium, so they’ll be pouring domestic beer into stadium cups for $3, or if you’re feeling fancy craft beer for $4. And they’ve got a special World Cup burger not on the the menu, so be sure to ask your server for the details.

Mac’s Place created a World Cup bucket ‘o beers for the occasion. Sip on six beers from around the world (Coors Light, Boddingtons, Konig Ludwig, Corona, and Heineken) for $18.

And what better place to watch soccer games than at a soccer stadium. The Three Lions Pub at Blackbaud Stadium will open 30 minutes prior to each game and will serve up drink specials at every game.
