Let’s admit that we’ve all used eBay to purchase one random thing or another — let’s say like an ugly sweater for an ugly sweater Christmas party or a vintage New Kids on the Block T-shirt. Well, how about purchasing stuff for a good cause? Redux Contemporary Art Center is holding an online auction, starting Sun. July 12, in order to raise money for their arts education and outreach program. Thurs. July 23 will be the last day to bid.

Local businesses have donated plenty of goods and services (both art and non-art related goodies) that would appeal to pretty much anybody. Executive Director Karen Myers hopes the auction will give the more than three dozen businesses participating in the fund-raiser an opportunity to reach audiences in Charleston and beyond. Some of the local participants include Beads on Cannon, Ted’s Butcherblock, Urban Nirvana, and Lula Kate.

“We can reach a larger audience by doing this on eBay, not just the Charleston area,” Myers says. “Local businesses will be getting national press … and at the same time we’ll be helping Redux continue it’s programs.”

The proceeds from the online auction will help keep Redux’s arts education and outreach workshops and classes affordable, and Myers wants everyone to know it’s really simple to help out.

“It’s an event that can take place at home, in your pajamas. It’s that easy.” Myers said.
