Summer isn’t even officially over, but guess what’s just around the corner!
I was in James Island County Park on Sept. 11 and the huge Christmas light displays were already up along the roadsides. County officials will not throw the switch on them until Thanksgiving, but there it was — a preview of reindeer and sleighs and stars and Santa and all the rest. A few days later I was in the Pig and that constant and annoying loudspeaker voice came on to remind shoppers that Christmas was on the way and it was time to start planning that seasonal grocery shopping.
There was a time when they held this stuff until after Thanksgiving. Then it fell back to Halloween. Pretty soon I see the Christmas season starting on the Fourth of July. Is this a great country or what?
