What is it? An intimate performance and discussion session presented by the newly formed Jazz Artists of Charleston.

Why see it? This “homecoming” event features longtime Charleston jazz combo Gradual Lean (featuring drummer Quentin Baxter, guitarist Lee Barbour, and bassist Kevin Hamilton), N.Y.C.-based jazz/world guitarist Clay Ross (formerly based in Charleston) and his group Matuto. In addition, there’ll be a jazz educational discussion with local critic/author Jack McCray and a master class by Ross before the main performance at 7:30 p.m.

Who should go? Hardcore jazz fans who are interested in hearing modern ideas, learning bits of local jazz history, and witnessing high technique.
