[image-1]James Beard award-winning Chef Robert Stehling has announced that his restaurant Hominy Grill will no longer serve dinner. In an email to City Paper, Stehling says that Sat. Oct. 28 was the official final night of dinner at the restaurant. The news comes a day after an anonymous source emailed City Paper reporting that all the evening staff at the restaurant were fired this weekend.
According to Stehling the shift to just breakfast, lunch, and his wildly popular brunch is a response to dining market changes in Charleston in the 21 years that Hominy has been open.
“These changes will allow us to consolidate resources and redirect our focus going forward. It will also allow us to respond to the significant demand for private events,” says Stehling.
The chef is also using the change as an opportunity to introduce “a number of new breakfast and lunch dishes that I’m excited about.” The chef promises that “Hominy will always adhere to the historical Charleston bent that is central to our DNA — the side vegetables, Southern breakfast, etc. — but I also want to see the restaurant continue to evolve.”
Going forward, Hominy’s new hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
