While popular upper King Street venue Torch Velvet Louge (545 King Street) usually hosts a rotation of local and visiting DJs who spin a mix of down-tempo trip hop, lounge grooves, contemporary funk-soul, reggae and progressive house, the hotspot occasionally veers into a different[image-1] direction and books an actual live band.

[image-2]This Wednesday, Jan. 14 marks the return of an all-star Carolina roots/Americana trio — Hank, Dave & Dean. String players Hank Futch with Dave Stewart (both of the Charleston band Blue Dogs, pictured at the right) and Dean Felber (the bassist of Hootie and the Blowfish, pictured at the left with guitarist Mark Bryan) will play a variety of standards, originals, and reworked rock faves. Torch bartender and talented singer Tim Davis (of Columbia-based rock/funk band The Soul Mites) is expected to sit in on a few tunes, too.

“This evening is a departure from Torch’s normal format and promises to be a fantastic night of live music,” says Torch management. “Do not miss this opportunity to see Charleston’s finest homegrown talent in an intimate venue. Capacity will be limited so be sure to arrive early.”

The show starts at 10 p.m. Call (843) 723-9333 for more info.
