Imagine a story involving a love affair between a mad scientist and his lab monkey. Now imagine that story set to music. Not just any music. Broadway musical kind of music, in which the final show-stopper sees the lab monkey spur the good doctor only to sacrifice himself for the blonde bombshell.
No, this isn’t King Kong set to Irving Berlin. This is what happened the last time I Eat Pandas came to town. This musical improv duo, comprising NYC-based performers Glennis McMurray and Eliza Skinner, is back in Charleston by popular demand, and they are ready to spin another trio of 25-minute musicals from thin air.
To get an idea of what to expect, consider this: a photograph in which McMurray and Skinner are standing atop a building with their backs facing the cityscape of New York. Both are wearing long T-shirts, heels, and not much else. But the writing on Skinner’s shirt is what foreshadows what’s to come. The shirt is red and contrasts against her alabaster white legs. What does it say? “100% Black Man.”
