There’s a loud buzz going about the Charleston-based American Idol auditions set for this week (see this week’s City Pick on p. 63), in which eager performers could request an official audition at the North Charleston Coliseum by e-mail. Why would anyone subject themselves to such a thing? Because, no matter how humiliating and demeaning the experience may be, the most important thing to most Americans seems to be getting their face on the TV screen. Thank heavens Lowcountry vocalist Quiana Parler emerged from her recent Idol experiences unscathed, better-appreciated, and solidly booked.
