Marvel’s new Captain Marvel movie dropped last week, the highly anticipated sequel to Avengers: Infinity War comes out late next month, with DC’s Shazam out just a few weeks before then. Superhero and comic book movies are at the top of the box office, and everyone’s talking about them, including Charleston’s own podcast The Comic Section.

The Comic Section is a weekly podcast, hosted by Jason Fickling and Xio Sosa. The goal is to inform fans of comics and pop culture news in the Charleston area.

You may know Fickling as his radio personality, J Roc Da Mic, on 95SX every weekend, or during the week day, get traffic updates from him on all Cumulus Media Radio Stations.

And Sosa is a local artist and avid cosplayer, with her own brand, Cut-It-Out Comics and Cosplay. You can find her at Soundwave Comics in Summerville, or any comic conventions in the surrounding area (though you may not recognize her under her cosplay).

*(Wiki break, cosplay is a performance art in which participants called cosplayers wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character.)

After working 14 years in the radio industry, Fickling wanted to branch out and create his own brand. Being a “comic nerd,” he wanted to create something in a world he was familiar with. After knowing Sosa for some time through their bond of comics and comics culture (including television and movies), they linked up and created The Comic Section, with sound producer Reggie C. of R3dman Actual Productions, and video producer Calvin Smith of the Statue Fanatic Youtube channel.

Their goal is to talk about what they love with each other, as well as fans and listeners, allowing them to voice their own opinions throughout the podcast.

“Our podcast is everything that relates to comic books and pop culture, which includes the Marvel and DC movies and television shows,” says Fickling. “It’s more than a podcast, it’s a show.”

The Comic Section is available on all streaming platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Soundcloud, Google Play Music, Amazon Alexa, and more, as well on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. New episodes are released every Monday, and available on Youtube via Statue Fanatic Youtube Channel.
