The last time we envisioned bright lights, loud music, and a blue man running around was in a trippy dream, but it looks like pretty soon we’ll get to see that in real life. This January, the Blue Man Group will be stopping at the North Charleston Coliseum to perform during their first-ever theatrical tour, which kicked off in 2010.
If you’ve seen the Blue Man Group before, you know that it’s a pretty crazy experience. It’s a mashed-up mix of live music, digital images, vast props, and, of course, blue men, and this performance promises material that has never before been seen. “In order to create a touring version of our theatrical production, we knew we had a creative challenge to tackle,” says Blue Man Group co-founder Philip Stanton. “We needed to find a way to transform theaters of all shapes and sizes into spaces in which the Blue Man can intimately connect with the audience, where the audience can become engaged with the spirit of the show and the Blue Man himself. We think we’ve finally figured it out.” The group has been performing in permanent locations like New York City since 1987, but has never produced a touring act. Stanton continues, “Hopefully we will accomplish our goal, which is always to help audience members reconnect with their own sense of wonder and discovery, with their own sense of what is possible in their lives.”
