So, yesterday we told you about Lucky’s Southern Grill, the new restaurant opening in the old Applebee’s on Folly Road. And today, we tell you about Heart Woodfire Kitchen, a new place going into the old Daily Dose on Highland Avenue, just off Folly.
The opening date for Heart is Wed. Dec. 7, which might explain why they haven’t returned our phone calls and emails.
We know a couple of things about Heart. One, it’s the venture of Glenn Christiansen, a well-regarded cook who’s worked for chefs around town like Robert Stehling at Hominy Grill.
Another thing we’re pretty sure about is that they have a wood-fired oven, in which they’ll be making things like flatbreads, wood-oven baked clams, and grilled speidie skewers. The sample menu on their website looks great (and reminds me a little bit of what will be going on over at Kevin Johnson’s Grocery when it opens). There’s a rotisserie section with chicken and porchetta. They have entrées like whole grilled flounder, wood-fired vegetable stew, and blackened catfish. All the sandwiches — turkey, fish salad, pastrami, and ham — are made with housemade meats. Side dishes include Carolina Gold Rice pilaf, apple-celery root slaw, roasted squash and brussels sprouts, and fried onions.
No price points are included on their website, but we’re hoping for suburb prices not downtown ones. It looks like they’ll be serving lunch and dinner and weekend brunch.
