A new retail wine shop will land on the peninsula at 164 Market St. on Monday. Jessamine + Vine “will support a worldwide selection of family-owned wineries and full complement of small production, craft spirits,” a press release said.

“I’m really excited and proud to offer something different to the Holy City and to be part of the growing ‘New South,’” owner Jason Nolley said in the release. “Charleston has a rich history of wine and food, and I think we are bringing something unique to that, something with our own charm.”

The shop’s name is an ode to South Carolina’s state flower, the yellow jessamine, Nolley told the City Paper.

“I’m proud to be from the South and live here in Charleston. I wanted to have a positive connection to the community in that way,” he said.

Nolley brings more than two decades of experience to Jessamine + Vine. After getting his start in the wine industry in Tennessee, he served as the wine director during the opening of two Colorado restaurants before moving to New York City, where he worked in the industry for 12 years and made several domestic and international connections.

Jessamine + Vine will offer bottles of red, white and bubbly that please the masses, but the shop will pride itself on wines from small family producers and up-and-coming labels, the press release said.

“The wine and spirits drinking experience has changed and the wine shop will be there as a guide to those new experiences, new products and new identity.”
