Local author Ryan Graudin — the brains behind YA books The Walled City, Wolf by Wolf, and Blood for Blood — presents her latest novel, Invictus, at a launch party next Tues. Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. at Blue Bicycle Books. This event is free and open to the public.

Invictus follows Farway Gaius McCarthy, a man “born outside of time,” on his various adventures, including one particular heist on the Titanic, where he meets a mysterious girl who contains knowledge that makes Farway question his own existence. Mystery and intrigue, y’all.

In a 2015 City Paper article Graudin talked to Kinsey Gidick about calling bullshit on the concept of the “strong female character.” She said, “That term has always bothered me because that makes it sound like an exception. I prefer the term ‘complex female characters.’ We’re writing real women, real girls.”

In addition to next Tuesday’s book launch, Graudin will be one of the many YA authors featured at this year’s YALLFest, held Nov. 10-11 in various locations around Charleston. Learn more about Graudin at ryangraudin.com.
