A Park Circle restaurant that has led Charleston’s all-day breakfast movement is turning 6 years old. Junction Kitchen & Provisions will celebrate its anniversary on Saturday, March 6 from 12-4 p.m. with a socially distanced outdoor event featuring local musician Derek Cribb, an outdoor bar with quick bites and cocktails and an outdoor kids craft area with the folks from Craft & Canvas

Reflecting on the last six years, Junction owner Kimana Littleflower remembers the days when she opened the restaurant 10 months after her daughter was born. At the start, Junction’s Park Circle location deterred downtown folks from swinging by for a buzzed doughnut or plate of chicken and waffles, she said.

“When we first opened, people really did have to get over our location. That dynamic has definitely shifted,” Littleflower said. “Having the Codfather, Holy City, Firefly and Jackrabbit move in, I kind of feel like we paved the way a little bit. It’s just wonderful that Park Circle has grown in locally owned businesses and our little corridor is blossoming.”

Littleflower struggled at the onset of the pandemic like most independent Charleston restaurants, but she’s found a way to operate with expanded outdoor seating and online ordering — Junction even secured its Sunday liquor license and started serving Sunday cocktails on Feb. 14, Littleflower said.

“In general, for us to survive COVID, it was the neighborhood,” she said. “We are so lucky to be in Park Circle — it’s such a tight-knit community, and our regulars really saved us. The continued success of the Junction post-COVID is also highly attributable to the ingenuity and adaptability of my amazing staff.”
