“Jobs and Schools” is an interesting essay, Mr. Deas. You write about our future. S.C. bribes businesses with money intended for education to be here by lowering the prevailing tax rate out into the future in secret deals where the public is not supposed to look or have a say in this particular sausage making for business. No wonder this travesty was aggressively hidden.

While future taxes can be reduced the current need for schools, roads, flood protections, etc. cannot. Therein lies the rub of the charade of economic growth as it is implemented in S.C. We cannot do both with this model. Education gives way. Or we distort the economy further with supplemental sales tax funding, targeted gimmicks and symbolic in name only acts to cool the ire.
