Last week, Halligan’s held a all-day, 12-band “Rock for the 9” benefit show to raise money for the City of Charleston Firemen’s Fund (P.O. Box 304, Charleston, S.C. 29402) . The fund-raising events continue this week with two more multi-band benefit shows.

Cumberland’s (301 King St., 577-9469) presents the [image-1]“Fireman’s Memorial Benefit” on Sat. July 21 with local indie bands The Specs (pictured at left), Jack of Knives, The Book of Lies, and The Lasso Choir in a special get-together between local rock/alt-country bands and friends to raise funds for the fallen firemen. The venue’s owner Sinan Raouf will match the money raised at the door (a $6 donation is asked, but patrons may donate more). Music starts at 9 p.m.

On Sun,. July 22, Summerville/Sangaree venue Hurricane Alley (1761 N Main St., 873-9220) and club manager Glen Jeansonne presents the “Benefit for the Firefighters” with [image-2]live music from rock bands Axus, Numb909, Virgil Kain, Shed, and solo singer/guitarist Chris Sullivan (pictured at left). Proceeds benefit the families of the Charleston Nine. A “Chef’s Choice BBQ Cook-off” takes place during the afternoon as well. The activities start at 2:30 p.m. and last ‘til late.
