Follow Charleston artist Greg Hart on Instagram and you’ll see that he is challenging himself by painting 100 pieces in a year. Hart starts with charcoal line drawings on cradled wood panels and then plays with shadows and color by using oil paint or acrylic paint. Occasionally he will add spray paint, coffee, ink, or oil to mix up his habitual process.
He said, “I like it when I make a piece that feels difficult to replicate because of weird nuances and happy accidents.”
His strictly portrait painting style allows him to paint local faces, or even recently, portraits based on cabinet cards from the Victorian era. The 100 paintings is set to be finished by December 2020.
