[image-6]The bowls are framed and the pipes are getting poured at SK8 Charleston, the long-awaited skate park project currently underway in the Neck area just north of downtown.
Photos posted last week by Charleston County Parks and Recreation show some significant progress on a few of the main features in the park. A long, shallow, sloping bowl called a snakerun and the park’s two separate bowls are all starting to take shape. A street course will run along the length of park and feature various rails, ramps, and quarter-pipes.
Hightower Construction started site prep last year on the 3.3 acre property on the frontage road alongside I-26 at 1549 Oceanic St. and crews from Team Pain Skateparks have been carving out the park’s main features over the past few weeks. You can see the park on the Ashley River side of I-26E just before the Rutledge Avenue exit.
The completed park will also include an event lawn and a new building for restrooms, concessions, and parking/drop-off areas.
