[image-1]Local artist and CofC grad Mado Smith presents his exhibition, Songs, at the Charleston Music Hall next Thurs. March 23 from 6-8 p.m. The event will feature sets by DJ Mummbls along with specialty cocktails.
In an artist statement Smith talks about the importance of music in his work, saying that music remains his muse even as his work evolves. He says, “As a painter, I am constantly experimenting with ways to help the viewer physiologically interact with my paintings, whether it is through sculpting thick layers of paint, infusing a painting with visceral life experiences, or manipulating color patterns like a code to unlock some latent memory from a dream.”
Smith’s work has an ethereal quality to it, as you can imagine music-inspired pieces may. You can check out his works in progress on his website. And Smith doesn’t just listen to music while he creates — he makes music too. Follow him on Soundcloud.
