Local musician and City Paper music writer J. Chapa dropped a two-song release on Bandcamp last week under the moniker Mala Mano. Since moving to town from Texas last spring, Chapa has kept busy in his home studio creating tracks like “A Lovin’ Idea” and “Fill the Cup,” the latter of which reflects on lessons learned back in Texas. “Fill The Cup is essentially about my childhood growing up in church,” Chapa says. “Some of the most wicked people I met were in church. It was really confusing as a child. I thought that if they were the good ones, everyone else must be evil. I eventually learned that a church is just a building and you can take what you believe with you anywhere you go.” Listen below or at malamano.bandcamp.com.
