The final phase of the Charleston City Market renovation has begun, and the latest news is somewhat exciting. The city announced the merchants in the “Great Hall,” an enclosed building between Meeting and Church streets, will include the Historic Charleston Foundation, Wonder Works, M. Dumas and Sons, and Charleston Shoe Company. But what I care about is the food, of course.

Gourmet deli and café Caviar and Bananas will be opening a second location, and Jimmy Hagood will debut Food for the Southern Soul, where he’ll be serving barbecue and shrimp and grits, and selling boatloads of his original barbecue sauces and other local products (like the new grits he’s milling) Patrons will be able to sit and eat in an outdoor café area.

Hank Holliday told the P&C that he’s got 300 vendors and a waiting list of 100. It makes me wonder how many of those are food outlets.
