[embed-1] Charleston County emergency responders were asked to shelter in place Monday afternoon as maximum sustained wind speeds reached 40 miles per hour. Powerful winds continue to down trees and power lines and the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the Charleston tricounty area until 10 p.m. Charleston police ask residents to completely avoid the downtown area until flooding subsides and conditions approve.

Many emergency vehicles remained on the roads as crews responded to calls of fires resulting from fallen power lines and submerged vehicles. As of 2 p.m., Charleston County has fully resumed EMS efforts until weather conditions change.
