In the next few weeks, expect Midtown Bar & Grill to open near O’Malley’s and right next door to 52.5 Records. The Upper King Street space is the oldest building north of Calhoun, according to the owners, and has been under serious renovation for the last year.

Co-Partner and Chef James Maybank says the building sits next to where the old wall around Charleston used to be and once looked out over a plantation. In addition to the main floor, the restaurant will have an outside patio with an outside bar, and a second floor event space with a deck. The construction has kept much of the old time feel, working with historic preservationists to highlight the building’s original floors, wide beams, and fireplaces.

On the food side, Midtown Bar & Grill will offer a full lunch and dinner menu, with an additional late-night menu available from midnight to 3 a.m. via the take-out window. Expect a menu of above-average bar food along with classic meat-and-three choices like country fried steak, fried chicken, and a barbecue platter. Another house favorite is the fresh boiled peanut hummus appetizer. The dinner menu will be an extension of the lunch menu with wraps, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and even a shrimp burger. They’ll serve Sunday brunch too.
