Irish Pub chain Molly Darcy’s recently expanded to Charleston for its third location, opening in the old Meritäge space on East Bay Street, just steps from the Market. They have locations in Connecticut and North Myrtle Beach.
Owner John Riney and Vice President Tommy Snee, both natives of Ireland, say they want to offer guests more than the usual pub fare.
“We want to place an emphasis on more than just food and drink,” Snee says. “We want to emphasize community as well.” Sounds like a traditional Irish pub to us.
The menu features a variety of classic Irish dishes, including Shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, bangers and mash, and a massive Irish breakfast, complete with eggs, sausage, bacon, black and white pudding, grilled tomatoes, Irish baked beans, and toast.
American items are offered as well, including several burgers, plus healthy alternatives such as goat cheese chicken salad. As far as the bar goes, domestic and foreign beers are offered, plus some familiar and unfamiliar Irish brands such as Guinness, Smithwicks & Magners, Tullamore Dew, and Jameson. Though the pub’s calendar is sparse right now, live bands and DJ’s, a Halloween party, and a grand-opening party are in the works.
