While it seems like every business these days is encouraging its customers to go green, South Carolina Federal Credit Union has come up with a novel method of persuasion. The credit union will reward customers with points, which can be redeemed for travel specials, shopping sprees, and merchant gift cards for using paperless banking methods like eChecking. “In a year it’s possible for a member to earn enough points for two free domestic airline tickets,” says Kathy Hobson, S.C. Federal Credit Union marketing project manager. Not bad. I mean, I’d gladly go paperless for a trip to Hawaii.
The credit union is also offering discounted loans on hybrid cars. For every “green” loan closed during the second quarter, S.C. Federal will donate $100 to Audubon South Carolina, headquartered at Francis Beidler Forest in Harleyville.
According to S.C. Federal’s Beth Jaskiewicz, senior vice president of marketing, the credit union team noticed a growing interest among customers in earth-friendly products and saw an opportunity to apply those initiatives to their banking system.
“Members who take advantage of South Carolina Federal Credit Union’s environmentally conscious products or promotions get the convenience of saving money, of course — and the good feeling that comes with making a responsible choice for the earth. Energy and money are important to conserve if we are going to enjoy the conveniences they help provide over the long run!” says Jaskiewicz.
