The original Mt. Pleasant Farmer’s Market won’t be open until mid-May, but you don’t have to wait until then to get your farmer’s market fix. Beginning today, March 18, the Shelmore Village Outdoor Market will be open every Wednesday from 4 p.m. until dark. The Market combines the boutiques of the village with traditional stall-style offerings centered around a nice green space. The Outdoor Market will feature fresh fruits and veggies from the likes of Boone Hall Farms, Tiverton Farms, and Porch Creek Produce. Rococo Bakery, the same bread and sweets stop we’ve come to love at the downtown farmer’s market, will be enticing shoppers with tasty cakes, cookies, pastries, and breads. Enjoy a juicy barbeque sandwich from Charleston Bay Gourmet and then stroll on over to Top Shape to get a few tips on how to work off all the goodies you picked up. Pick up some vino to pair with dinner at Crushed or get some stylish new kicks for the kids at Shoe La La. If the kiddies are getting in your hair, just send them on over to Bottles and Brushes — they’ll be setting up a special kid-friendly space where your little ones can paint while you peruse the produce. Runners can register for the 2009 Cooper River Bridge Run and there will be a weekly featured charity and a raffle to benefit Pet Helpers of Charleston. —Candice Summers
