More than a year after leaving Fish, a restaurant he helmed for a decade, Nico Romo is a week away from opening his own Mt. Pleasant restaurant, aptly named NICO.

According to Romo’s publicist, NICO will officially open on Wed. Nov. 1 and will be limited to reservations only the first week.

NICO sits across the street from The Shelter at 201 Coleman Blvd. in an old converted Pizza Hut that previously housed two Italian concepts — Sal Parco’s Sette as well as Pane e Vino for a hot minute.

Now the space shifts to a seafood-centric concept. Romo has long been a supporter of sustainable seafood efforts championing so called trash fish like wreckfish and triggerfish as far back as 2007. And, according to early press releases, that commitment to fresh local seafood will be the focus of NICO’s menu with Chef Romo relying “heavily on Lowcountry waters … and a curated selection of raw oysters.”

We expect to see a menu later today. Stay tuned for an update to this post.
