North Charleston's St. Patrick's Day 2019 celebration

North Charleston city officials announced Wednesday morning they are canceling their annual St. Patrick’s Day festival for the second year in a row due to coronavirus concerns.

The announcement was made on Twitter with the message “The St. Patrick’s Day festival is a no-go this year,” and somber video footage of previous celebrations.

The announcement marks the second year in a row that one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the area has had to be canceled. City leaders canceled last year’s event only days before it was supposed to start as the Lowcountry entered the early stages of quarantine.

Savannah announced that it would be canceling its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration as well one day before.
