Just when you thought Bertha’s, La Norteña, and the steaming bowls of Pho out at the H&L market had the ethnic market cornered in North Chuck, along comes The Silva Spoon, a new “soul food cafe.” It might be the only soul food joint in the world where an extra neckbone with your okra soup will run you a dollar, but the WiFi comes free with the meal.

Of course, the women out there on Rivers Avenue dish up all the standard fare: fried chicken to die for, thick bowls of beans spooned over rice, daily specials that hop between chitlins and pork chops washed down with good, clean sweet tea. And all for less than $10.

But don’t worry, with the friendly local service and only a smattering of work trucks frequently crowding the lot, there’s still time to hit the Spoon before the lines start snaking out the door. They’re located at 5080 Rivers Ave. (843) 554-3333
