The Charleston Mercury has raised its price again, the second time in two years. First, it was free. Then, 50 cents. Now, $1. Price increases could be an indication of revenue issues, like expenses exceeding income, among other issues. The Mercury is also smaller than it once was. It’s now five columns wide, not six.

If you don’t know what the Mercury is, I’m afraid I can’t be of much help. Frankly, I don’t get the Mercury or its editorial stance (that’s probably a good thing from its point of view). It seems to care a lot about downtown cocktail parties, horses, sailing, and life in small Eastern European countries. Maybe this will help, a snippet from its “About Us” page from its website, though I doubt it:
