Summervillians looking for a bite beyond a chain are in luck. Mike Karkut, owner of Graze, says his second location will open at 115 East 5th St., Summerville on Mon. March 16.
Dismissing the idea that Summerville is “some kind of hick town,” Karkut says, “People here want nicer food.” And he’s prepared to offer that. Graze Summerville will offer 75 percent of Graze Mt. Pleasant’s menu options including the restaurant’s famous mac and cheese and chicken ‘n’ waffles. Plus, smoked items.
“I inherited a smoker with the building,” Karkut says. He plans to smoke pork chops, wings, and make his own bacon with the equipment.
In other opening news, Spero (161 Meeting St.) opened it’s doors on Tuesday. As co-owners RJ Moody and Rob Laudicina shared with us last month, the restaurant (next door to Diggity Doughnuts and bar Local 616) seeks to serve food that’s as local as possible in plates like mushroom agnolotti, beef short rib sandwiches, and Scotch eggs. Spero is open Mon.-Sat., 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
Those on the Chipotle countdown, it looks like you have another week to wait. Contrary to our Jan. 8 report of a Fri. March 6 opening, Chipotle officials have told Post & Courier‘s Warren Wise that a Fri. March 13 opening is more likely.
