[embed-1] In December, we wrote about the future of Palmetto Brewing, the city’s (and state’s) oldest brewery. After Palmetto was acquired by North Carolina-based Catawba Brewing Co. in late 2017, fans of the humble Huger taproom and Amber Ale wondered what would become of the brand. Lucky for all involved, a glow up was in the works.

Tomorrow, Fri. March 1, Palmetto will launch a rebrand. Meaning? New beers, new can designs, and an updated tasting room. They’ll celebrate through Sat. with live music, tasty pop-ups, and the debut of two new beers to commemorate the occasion.

Spanglish Cuban kitchen will be onsite Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. with tunes starting up at 6 p.m. from Letters to Abigail. Whiskey Diablo takes the stage Sat. starting at 4 p.m. and Home Team serves up the ‘cue starting at 2 p.m. The brewery will donate $1 from each pint sold on Sat. to Hogs for the Cause, a nonprofit that assists families dealing with pediatric brain cancer.

The two new beers debuting this weekend are a far cry from Palmetto standards: the Nice & Brite gose (5% ABV) is a German-style wheat ale brewed with lemon and elderflower and the Idle Speed Salted Lime lager (4.8% ABV) is an “easy-drinking” session brew. The gose will be available year-round on draft and in six-pack cans and the lager will be on tap March-Sept. and in six-packs.

The tasting room will also have the Huger Street IPA, Lowcountry Lager, and Mango IPA on tap (and in their fancy new packaging). The Raspberry Rewind, a raspberry wheat ale, continues on tap as part of the brewery’s seasonal 843 Series.

When we chatted with the Palmetto crew in December, manager Rick Rice said that with the rebranding, “every can almost tells a story ‘what is the beer about, what is the location about?'”

You, dear drinker, can be a part of the story any damn day of the week at the Palmetto tasting room, open Mon.-Thurs. from 4 to 10 p.m., Fri. and Sat. from noon to 10 p.m., and Sun. from noon to 8 p.m.
