Earlier this year, over 500 dog and cat lovers submitted photos of their pets for the chance to appear on the label of Palmetto Brewing Company’s 2020 Rescue Brew Beer. The winners — Mr. T and Pete — will officially be honored Sunday, Dec. 13 from 1-7 p.m. at a release party featuring Rodney Scott’s BBQ food truck and adoptable puppies from the Charleston Animal Society.

Nearly 70,000 votes were cast to select the winning dog, Pete, and the winning cat, Mr. T, whose pictures appear on the labels of the Rescue Brew Beer cans. The beer, Palmetto’s seasonal “Peace of Cookie” milk stout, will be available in draft, six-packs and cases at Sunday’s event.

“When the Charleston Animal Society announced their Rescue Brew contest earlier this year, I entered my cat, Mr. T, on a lark,” said Catherine Brack, Mr. T’s pet parent. “I loved the creativity of the project as a way to raise money. They designed the contest so that votes were actually dollar for vote donations, so one vote was $1, up to as much as you wanted to contribute.”

In total, the fundraiser generated over $70,000, which will go toward the Charleston Animal Society’s work to treat, protect and find homes for animals in need.

The fundraising efforts will continue Sunday, with $1 from every pint and six-pack sold going towards the nonprofit’s efforts. Pete and Mr. T will be on hand for photographs, and the Charleston Animal Society will bring seven puppies that are up for adoption.

Palmetto Brewing Company, WCSC Live 5 News, Charleston City Paper and Cupcake DownSouth partnered to put on the Rescue Brew Beer fundraiser.
