The Holy City’s only community cinema Park Circle Films is turning five this weekend, and to celebrate the occasion — and the holiday season — the group will show It’s a Wonderful Life in what will be their 297th screening. The film screens at 7 p.m. on Sat. Dec. 7.
Since Park Circle Films began in 2008 Nearly 10,000 people have attended the showings, partly for the movies and partly for the self-acclaimed best (free) popcorn in the Lowcountry.
Since the first screening in 2008 of the documentary What Would Jesus Buy?, which followed the anti-consumerist activist Reverend Billy and his Church of Stop Shopping, Park Circle Films has been giving us movies that aren’t shown in local theaters and providing filmmakers with an audience for their work. So spend your $5 somewhere that matters this weekend (or get a membership for $25) and watch dear ole Jimmy Stewart learn about the spirit of Christmas.
