How funny. In Thursday’s Preview section, Rob Young visits Party Kingdom for his Lunch Counter column. I completely disagree with his assessment, but it’s nice to see them getting some attention.
Here’s what Young says:
The stir fry ($8-$9.50) is probably king here, made with broccoli, shaved carrots, onions, bean sprouts, and crowned with basil. It retains a nice, cool flavor that mixes well with the dish’s heat. The pad thai ($8-$9.50 with vegetables, chicken or shrimp) noodles are a little flat, but otherwise the flavoring hits the mark.
We didn’t like the stir fry at all, but it might have been because we ordered it with noodles instead of rice and the noodles did a piss poor job of sopping up the sweet sauce of the stir fry. I thought the pad Thai was scrumptious, particularly because it had a ton of crushed peanuts on top, instead of the small sprinkling you usually get.
I couldn’t help but noticing that he didn’t order the pho! How can you eat Vietnamese and not order the pho? Maybe he didn’t have six people eating like our group did.
