After news that Henry Brown would not be running for reelection came early this morning, Paul Thurmond is considering a run for the 1st Congressional seat.

Encouraged to run last spring, Thurmond said he was staying out of the race in support of Brown.

“I am sad to see we are losing the leadership of a dedicated public servant in Henry Brown,” Thurmond told the City Paper this morning. “That said, I view this as an exciting possibility that warrants serious discussion amongst family and friends.”

If Thurmond enters the race, it will be a dynamic battle between two of the biggest last names in South Carolina politics, with Carroll Campbell III already in the GOP primary.
