Don’t worry if you see a grown man wearing a banana suit. And don’t worry that he seems to be accosting people near the ticket kiosk at the Gaillard Municipal Auditorium. That’s just John Brennan and he’s harmless despite all appearances. He is in fact a sane, caring, and socially well-adjusted individual. He just acts bananas.

And he’s hustling for his one-man comedy show, The Banana Monologues. The tactic seems work. He packed his show last night. More than that, he’s getting some attention from Broadway.

Brandy Sullivan of Theatre 99, where Brennan usually performs, says he’s in discussions with New York producers about taking the show to the Great White Way. These discussions have been on and off again for two years, but evidently some momentum is taking shape. And he doesn’t, by the way, wear the banana suit during the show. That part is all marketing hustle.

I’ll have a chat with Brennan later. Meanwhile, tell him to break a leg! -JS
