[image-1]Sometimes it’s hard to find love. You don’t always know what to say. What if you have nothing in common? And then there’s the whole date scenario — what will you wear? Where will you eat? What if it’s burritos or gyros or meatloaf? Luckily, this month, Pet Helpers and the Charleston Animal Society are helping you find love with “Barktoberfest,” an Adopt-A-Thon that will give someone a new best friend who will give its unconditional love. One part of this campaign is an ad drive.
For $60, sponsors are able to put a large picture of the animal of their choosing as an ad in the Charleston City Paper for potential adopters to see.

Or if you’re looking for someone special for yourself, stop by Charleston Animal Society, Marion Square, Petco in West Ashley, or PetSmart in Mt. Pleasant for a fee-waived adoption drive. Not sure you can find your perfect match? Pet Helpers has a specific algorithm to help you. “We view our adoption counselors at Pet Helper’s as matchmakers. Our adoption counselors take the time to get to know you and your needs through tools like Meet Your Match, which was developed by the ASPCA,” says Caroline Morris. “Pet Helpers staff members categorize animals by energy levels, personality traits, etc. and give visitors a survey to help determine what they are looking for in a pet. Our adoption counselors take their jobs extremely seriously.”

Pet Helpers is also having a special for cat lovers this fall. Any cat that has some orange on their fur is available for adoption for only $20. The shelter also has Lucky Black Cat Fridays, which offer black kitties for only $13. When you think of it, that’s way cheaper than taking someone out on a date. And they won’t care if you drip refried beans down your shirt from your burrito. Morris says, “When you adopt an animal, you’ve just taken home an animal that is going to love you forever in a way most humans can’t because you saved him. That’s an incredible bond.” Look for the ads in the issue of the City Paper that comes out on Oct. 30 to see if someone has sponsored who could be your  cuddle buddy for the winter season.
