Over the past 30 years, Carol Linville and her staff at Pet Helpers have worked tirelessly to provide a safe haven for the neglected and abandoned animals of Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties, but lately their resources have been stretched thin.
This weekend the no-kill animal shelter is offering half-off adoption fees to encourage everyone to come out and see all the adorable animals looking for a good home. They’re currently housing 120 adult cats, 30 adult dogs, 75 kittens, and 10 puppies … and they’ve got a waiting list of people waiting to turn in more animals.
Hours are Sat. Aug. 1, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun. Aug. 2, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Fees are $65 for puppies and kittens, and $50 for adult dogs and cats. All of this is included: spaying or neutering, the first series of vaccinations, a heart worm test, leukemia testing for cats, internal and external parasite control, a collar with leash, microchip and dogs get free obedience classes from the Charleston’s School of Dogs.
