The Charleston Music Hall buzzed with excitement before Jake Shimabukuro took the stage Tuesday night. I spoke to Shimabukuro’s uncle while waiting in line for my ticket, he could not have been more proud of his nephew, grinning from ear to ear with excitement for the show.

The Hawaiian ukelele guru dazzled the audience with his fast dancing fingers, electric on his little instrument. How this man plays such a tiny instrument and creates such a big sound is a mystery. His smile was brilliant and his tunes captivating, as we watched him get lost in his music. Whether he was playing his quiet song written for his son, or rocking out under the live oaks of the Cistern, Shimabukuro never fails to bring the heat.
