A multi-racial, multi-generational, and multi-planetary crowd gathered on The Mall in Washington, D.C., last weekend for the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear. “There were green guys walking around, too,” says former City Paper photographer Nancy Santos. The event was a satirical jab at political insanity on the cusp of the 2010 elections. The crowd included an 80-year-old bed bug and a crowd of Code Pink activists from Wonderland. One man claimed to be both a masturbator and voter, though he was honing neither craft at the time. “Sanity will always be and has always been in the eye of the beholder,” said host Jon Stewart at the end of the rally. “To see you here today and the kind of people that you are has restored mine.”
