Here at the City Paper, we look forward to Greek Fest all year long. Like an office-wide field trip, we all pile into cars and head to Race Street, where we proceed to stuff our faces with gyros, Greek doughnuts, mezes, and baklava. Then we get back to the office and are generally useless for the rest of the day. It’s great fun.
Charlestonians celebrated Greek Fest throughout Mother’s Day weekend, enjoying not just the food, but traditional performances, dancing, tours of the church, and shopping for fun tchotchkes. It’s always an educational experience, the number one lesson being this: the Greek Orthodox Church sure knows how to throw a good party.
